Linen Care - 100% Flax Linen Bedding Care Guide
In this post we outline how best to care for your beautiful linen bedding, to ensure it lasts as long as possible.
Pure linen is a relaxed easy-care fabric – it dries quickly and will feel crisp after sun drying but soften immediately.
Linen fabrics have been used for centuries, in many ways. They've commonly been washed in water only, but are durable enough to sustain hundreds of washes in today's soaps, powders and detergents. Harsher detergents are prone to pull more fibres from the fabric, so we encourage mild or soft formulas, and a short and gentle wash cycle. For environmental reasons, we recommend cold washing, and air drying. Linen dries very quickly in a light breeze, and will result in a crisp and crinkly feel. Linen grows softer with each night's sleep, and will also gradually soften with each wash. This is why very old linen is still treasured. If tumble drying is necessary, we recommend pulling your pieces out before they're bone dry, and finishing the drying process by air.
Never use bleach. Never dry clean.
Ironing isn't necessary, but if a smooth appearance is preferred, a low heat iron is tolerated.
We provide linen storage bags with each order, which allow breathing during storage.
Using minimal washing and handling processes saves you money, and preserves the beauty of this fabric so you can enjoy them for years to come (and pass them down to your children.)
