MM Friend: Ophelia Mikkelson Jones
Ophelia Mikkelson Jones is a much loved friend of Milou Milou, artist, creative and photographer. Her book of photographs, published by anyonebooks, comes out this week. We were honoured to have her shoot linens in soft shades of CHRIS, MARDEN and PAUL in her light-filled new home on New Zealand's coast.

MM — How do you begin and end your days?
We moved into our new home a few months ago so I am really loving spending time in bed because we can watch the sunrise from there. Eggs on toast and tea is my morning ritual and I love going to bed really early. Ryder often reads to me, and stays up much later reading. We have an orange paper Noguchi lamp next to our bed that glows gold in the evening.
MM — What advice do you have for living a more considered, simple, sustainable life?
Consider what you are buying, what you are wearing and where it has all come from. Consider how things will break down. Buy locally and grow food. Share and learn.
MM — How is colour important to you and how does it influence your life? Tell us about some treasured objects, about the colours you find yourself returning to again, the meanings they hold, the systems you have around colour in your life, wardrobe and home.
My favourite colour has always been green for as long as I can remember. I have green eyes so maybe that is it? I find it very calming, I wear it a lot and look like a bean. Ryder's is blue, he has blue eyes. In our wedding rings we both have an emerald and a sapphire. Recently, a heron bird has been coming to our garden each day. Apparently they represent 'a dance between the land and sky, of blue and green'.
MM — What have you been consuming of late, can you share the artists, books, podcasts, albums, films and brands you've been drawn to?
I’ve been reading On Earth We Are Briefly Gorgeous — by Ocean Vuong and listening to the podcast Poetry Unbound — by Pádraig Ó Tuama.
